- Genesis 3:7-9
- And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
- And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
- And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
- Matthew 15:13-14
- But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
- Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
With the invention of the compass, we have had the luxury of being able to find the proper direction of travel anywhere we might be. However, something essential is missing from the patented compass… your current location. It doesn’t do us, Apostolic travelers, much good to know where we want to go but not where we are currently. We are missing that fifth point of the compass… our current location!
The very first question God asked humanity is found in:
- Genesis 3:9 The LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
Where are you? If anybody knew where Adam was, God did. So why did God ask Adam…? He wanted Adam to recognize where he was… He wanted Adam to recognize that he had drifted away from the favor of God. Adam… look at yourself… you are running… with fear… searching for a place to hide… from your guilt and shame… you must realize that something is wrong… you are naked… you have been stripped of your integrity… and peace of mind… what happened… Adam you must become aware… that you are lost…
It’s okay to admit we are lost or struggling… there is hope and there is help! Peter tells us:
- II Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
It is not the will of God that we perish. We must receive the Holy Ghost and allow it to become our spiritual guide! Mark it down, my friend, we need the leadership of a spiritual Saviour. We may be lost on the hillside of time with no sense of direction and not knowing where to go. The darkness of confusion and frustration indicates the need for the leadership of a shepherd. If you are that one lost sheep wandering on the highway of life, there is a Saviour that longs to bring you from your lost condition into the fellowship of the fold, to love and minister to you. Such a sheep is the kind who wanders from the blessings of the Lord, lured by some attractive pasture, unaware of the dangers… Therefore, we need the leadership of the shepherd to get back to safety. There is a need for us to be led into the presence of Jesus Christ. There will be joy in Heaven at our repentance!
